From 1345 until today the name appears in Uetikon on Lake Zurich. From there it spread to Alsace and France.
During the 18th century the name appears in various towns in Badenia.
The Palatine branch of the family was founded by Sebastian Guckenbühler, who was born in the Kaiserslautern area around 1750. Twigs of this branch spread to the USA and England.
